The stunning looks of the cabriolet are classic Mercedes-Benz, with sweeping lines and sparkly grille; the four-seater soft-top has the practicalities of an executive saloon with the pizzazz of a convertible for sunny days. Updates in 2005 included two new six-cylinder engines and seven-speed autos for some models.

Subtle curves and traditional style instruments with modern white LED distinguish the interior of the CLK - the analogue clock is the same size as the rev counter, perhaps hinting that ringing every last rpm from the engine will not be a priority for the owner. Materials feel reassuring in quality compared with a few earlier models from Mercedes-Benz. Visibility is good with the inevitable compromise of the convertible roof increasing blindspots to the rear.

Passable as a full-time four seater with decent rear legroom and enough headroom for most passengers. Does a good job of coccooning occupants from the outside world. No stretching behind for seatbelts with the risk of pulling a muscle here - after closing the door, front seat occupants are handed their seatbelts as an electric arm extends from behind your shoulder.

Earliest models made do with a cassette player as standard, although most owners would have chosen a CD player. Air conditioning is also standard. A CD was made standard equipment in 2004. Otherwise most things you'd expect to find, but you'll pay handsomely for any extras like satellite navigation, audio upgrades, leather and AMG alloys when buying new.

Entry-level engine badged 200 Kompressor is a supercharged 1.8-litre. Feels livelier than the 2.6-litre CLK 240. CLK 320 offers smooth performance, while V8s in CLK 500 and CLK 55 AMG are brisk and refined. Changes in 2005 resulted in two new six-cylinder engines to replace the CLK 320. The CLK 280 matches the CLK 320 for performance while the CLK 350 bridges the gap between the smaller six-cylinder car and the V8s. New sixes and the CLK 500 use seven speed automatic transmissions from 2005. Unlike the coupe version, there are no diesels in the cabriolet range.

A great long-distance cruiser. The rear-wheel drive handling characteristics allow for precise steering with good feedback, but if you're in the higher power models watch out for that back end on wet roads. Ride comfort is excellent. - it can easily break away without much provocation. Luckily an electronic stability programme is standard. Very little in the way of dreaded 'scuttle shake' - the vibration you feel in a convertible through a loss of rigidity from lacking a proper roof.

A decent sized boot - helped by the fact that the roof is made of fabric and is more space efficient than modern convertibes with a folding metal roof - and a few storage spaces in the cabin mean the Cabriolet is a reasonably practical four-seat soft-top.

Overall, the Mercedes CLK is a Beautiful elegant looking car from nearly every angle. Build quality is excellent. It truly seats 4 people in comfort, equipment levels are good once you add some options to standard equipment. Safe secure handling, hood mechanism is great.

The four classic automobiles will be sold separately and will be auctioned online. The four vehicles are totally unique and rare that the bidding will surely go through the roof. A Mercedes, a Lincoln and two Jaguars will be auctioned via eBay.

The first of the four classic automobile is a 1955 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Show Car. This timeless piece of engineering was first introduced to the public in 1954 at the New York Auto Show. It is distinct among it predecessors because of the fact that it did not debut during a European motor show.

Aside from that peculiarity, the Mercedes Benz 300SL is also best known for its gullwing or butterfly wing doors. The door configuration is now being used on sports cars and is also known to enhance the aesthetic value of a vehicle.

The 300SL is also the first car to be equipped with a gasoline engine with the direct fuel injection system. This means that the technology used in the 300SL is akin to diesel engine. The estimated value for this rare car is between $600,000 and $700,000.

The second car on the auction block is a rare 1954 Jaguar XK 120 Drop Head Coupe. This rare car is the forefather of the modern Jaguar XK which has captured the attention of performance enthusiast not only because of its high aesthetic value but also because of its high level of performance. The particular Jaguar XK to be auctioned has been thrice owned, with the current owner having owned the car since the year 1991.

The third classic car which will be auctioned is a 1933 Lincoln KA V-12 Model 513A Convertible Roadster. This is the oldest car in the group and is also the rarest of the four - owing to its age. The car can accommodate two or four passengers, and is equipped with rumble seat and side mounts. This particular model was designed by Dietrich and the body was built by the Murray Corporation.

The last of the four classic cars to be auctioned is another Jaguar. This time, a 1967 Jaguar E Type Vintage Roadster OTS Race Track Prepped. The car combines both beauty and strength. This street legal is ready for a race, thanks to its abundant supply of power. The car has seen life in the fast lane since it has begun its racing life way back in the early seventies.

The auction for the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and the Jaguar XK120 will end on the 11th of March. The Lincoln and the Jaguar E Type will be on the auction block until the 13th of this month.

BMW Convertible Models Made In The US

European manufacturers have made convertible car models for many years, even for the american market. One of these is BMW. Have you heard about the Z3 roadster? This was the first mass-market and assembled BMW convertible in the United States. We saw this model on the market in 1996, just after it was featured in the James Bond movie, Golden Eye. The production ended in the year 2002 and before that many variants were introduced. The coupe version was also introduced in 1999 after having been manufactured and assembled in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In the late 2002 the Z4 model - the successor to the Z3 model - was introduced in the Paris Auto Show.

The engineers which developed the Z3 used the E36 of the BMW 3 Series as a platform. The l name of the platform that resulted out of this was referred as the E36/7 model. The rear semi-trailing arm suspension from the E30 model was used rather than the more sophisticated multilink suspension from the E36. At first, just the 1.9 L M44B19 straight-4 engine was offered, though its 138 hp made the vehicle less of a performer than many buyers wanted. Feedback from customers told that the interiors of this model were not good as it was in the other models of this manufacturer. Especially bad looking was the plastic rear window even in comparison to to the glass unit found on the much-cheaper 1999 model Mazda Miata.

In 1997, this little four was complemented by a larger straight-6 engine In the North American market, the 2.8 L M52B28. This engine, taken from the 328i, was especially attractive with its 189 hp. As the four was retired a 3.2 L S52B32 I6 engine was used in the M Roadster that came in the year after. In 1999, the 1.9L 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a 2.5L straight-6, producing as much as 170 hp. Curiously, this BMW model was badged as the '2.3'.

Outside of North America a 2.0L straight-6 was used instead of a 1.9L 4-cylinder. All of the engines were replaced when the car was freshened for a few years later; more precisely in 2001. The range now consisted of the 2.2 L M54B22 (available outside of North America), 2.5 L M52B25, 3.0 L M52B30, and (for the M Roadster) 3.2 L S54B32. All three of these straight-6 engines lasted through the end of the car's run the year after. Except for the plastic window, the whole interiors were refurbished.

Other problems of the Z3 model reported were bad oxygen sensors, the plastic water pump and a rear shock mount that failed. The retro styling though, was more popular and the Z3s have held their value fairly well in the resale market.

M Roadster
From 1998 to 2002, the Motorsports division of BMW produced the well known model M Roadster. This model included suspension upgrades and the engine from the BMW M3. A 3.2L S52 motor was there in the as early as in 1998 as well as 1999, and 2000 M roadster along with a quad exhaust. The models after the millennium change, in other words the 2001 and 2002 models had the S54 motor from the E46 M3 as well as interior upgrades with additional gauges in the center console. A lighted M shift knob, various chrome bits throughout the cockpit and sport seats were also part of the standard equipment. There were also many exterior changes, like larger wheels spaced further apart and more aggressive fenders than were installed on the regular Z3. It was also an option to have hardtops.

The overall appearance of the Jeep Trailhawk concept embodies the traditional Jeep classic style along with new design cues like the open top roof resembling roof styling found on convertible coupe models. The Trailhawk concept features a bold and aggressive exterior body and has a long 116-inch wheelbase. Other exterior features include, stretched fender flares, tall trapezoidal vent, HID projector beam quad lamps, cross-car instrument panel, signature seven-slot Jeep grille, LED park and turn signals, four cup holders, sliding Jeep Load ?N Go cargo tray drop-down tailgate, and large 22-inch five-spoke wheels. The left and right lamps show the eyes of a bird of prey, that is why the designers called the vehicle Trailhawk.

The Jeep Trailhawk comes with interior space for four passengers with premium leather seats. The two-tone leather-wrapped aluminum steering wheel offers an exciting driving feel wheter it is on- or off-road. Other interior features of the Jeep Trailhawk concept include steering wheel mounted switches and controls, remote control fold-away flat screen navigation unit, two front and rear armrest, storage bin modules, and a premium audio system with MP3 capability.

On the technical side, customers should expect a 3.0-liter BLUETEC CRD engine under the hood of the Jeep Trailhawk. The engine pumps out 215 hp at 4,000 rpm produces 376 lb.-ft. amount of peak torque at 1,600-2,800 rpm. To cool off the engine, a radiator with Jeep fan shroud will be included. The engine is coupled with a 5-speed automatic gearbox to power the four-wheel-drive (4WD) drivetrain configuration of the Trailhawk concept. Suspension parts come with a front axle with 4 bar links, and rear axle with 5-bar links.
