Q: There are plenty of books on women?s health on the market, what is different about yours? What does it offer that is distinct and of practical use to women? A: The New Feminine Brain takes account for and examines how as civilization advances the environmental changes impact the brain. As life gets more complex with things such as satellites, cell phones, iPods, PDAs, these shape our brain. Information changes our wiring. I call this plasticity. Women in the year 2006 balance motherhood, career, childcare, and eldercare of aging parents. These are more complex lives than ever in history. Multiple roles lead to pressure and combined with technological advances in medicine have altered the hormones in the female brain.

Q: Does this mean that the brain of women in 2006 are very different than females in 1906? A: Yes. We are hormonally altered women. Women are deferring until 40 to have children. One new mother in the news recently was 60. Pregnancy and childbirth changes a brain. Think of the kinds of pressures that women have in their lives by the time they are 40 and compound that with later in life motherhood. If a woman has had to be on fertility drugs, or contraceptive pills, or has lived for decades in an environment of zeno-estrogens those all impact the brain.

Q: So what is the effect of synthetic prescription? A: Tamoxifen and other cancer drugs are anti-estrogen. Estrogen is a mood elevator. When you save a woman?s life and then put her on Tamoxifen, within two months she frequently gets off. Studies are inconclusive. Side effects can be depression, mood, attention problems, and memory. The New Feminine Brain give resources to women of today on how to navigate challenges with an understanding of how environment impacts their brain chemistry.

Q: Can you describe how The New Feminine Brain outlines these suggestions for women on how to take an active lead in their mental health? A: The book indicates major suggestions to pay attention to. Q: You are open about your ADD. How can The New Feminine Brain be of help to other women who are ADD? A: ADD and mood are an access to intuition that can be capitalized. 15% of people have a different style of attention. Some environments are conducive and others aren?t to this style. There are plenty of supplements and medicines to lend support for attention boosters. The ADD that is often called a disorder is defined by what the school teacher says about you. It is a unique form of diagnosis. So for ADD women, The New Feminine Brain teaches you how to figure this out and work with it if you have to be in an environment counter to your special attention style. Medicines don?t alter a lot because you are still the same person. If prescriptions really worked on ADDers, our society wouldn?t have Robin Williams because he has severe ADD. Q: Why do some ADDer succeed like Williams and others simply underachieve? A: You can get help from the physician but keep the power within you. You do not have to live the label. The success stories had the mind set of ?I?ll take what you told me to help myself but I don?t live your prognosis?. By not handing over your power to a professional is one step since it may not necessarily be true. Another key is that the ADD successes have a strong internal spirit so they don?t listen to what doesn?t make sense. They don?t let people break them. This is the resilience and temperament factor.

The definition of attention is the ability to pay focused perception on something free from distraction and reign in impulse. Q: Does The New Feminine Brain examine whether or not there are two breeds of women these days caught in an evolutionary loophole? It seems like women are polarized in the realm of relationships. Some women literally need a man and can?t exist without a male partner. Others can be annoyed with one around too long. A: I am not really a feminist from the point-of-view of the brain. Some people have a brain style where their happiness has to come through someone else. They can only feel good with a strong, protective person, usually a male. A woman like this needs close companionship to feel normal. To others this is irritating because of their circuits of arousal make them too emotionally porous. Another strong figure is too much information on their system. These women are compelled to do something rather than equalize their internal emotions. So the presence of a protective male figure is very destabilizing for their life.

Consider also that a lot of women stay in a relationship due to lack of skills, independence, self-esteem, money, and other essentials to self-empowerment so then don?t really have a choice. They aren?t free to choose. The New Feminine Brain offers resources so women can have the freedom to understand their unique brain style, play out merits, fix moods, and live in peace. Whether or not this means a partner or not.

Q: A recent story here in Toronto published in The Globe and Mail talked about a study that concluded women who were mothers were smarter than those who weren?t. What are your thoughts to that? A: The studies included rat brains as well but saying that mothers are smarter is complicated. It?s true that taking care of something close to you can make you brighter. Old people in nursing homes are given pets and it improves memory and cognition. The stimulation increased flexibility of the brain. ?Aunting? behavior such as taking care of someone else?s kids can sprout the same brain pathways. It?s an unfortunate statement and misses the mark to say this. That means men are truly disadvantaged. The message to women is to have a baby and they?ll be better. Being a mother depends on what your brain is molded for. This is what The New Feminine Brain teaches you to determine. Not every woman is wired to be a mother and therefore, she should not have children. There are examples in the animal kingdom. Some sheep have lambs and then ignore them and walk away. So the sheepherder has to find a surrogate mother with a better brain adaptive to motherhood.

Q: In your own words how would you sum up what The New Feminine Brain can do for women? A: The book teaches you to find your unique genius, navigate the world, fix problems and maximize unique gifts.

If you have a problem in the brain it is also an access to intuition. A problem kid is a different kid. Mothers can capitalize the strength about their brain but also mold their brain to fit into society when need be. Labels are important. You can?t fix it if you can?t name it. BUT - you can?t let it limit or define you like a crutch or tool in the world.

Q: Do you have any words of wisdom for women who are ?self-help? addicts? There is a line between improvement and needing it to function. A: It is a form of dependency when you have lost your internal anchor and seek answers outside. It is a pursuit of a holy grail of happiness. Happiness is looking outside what you should know is inside. Some are using it just to have a relationship. Peace is within. People who need people is as old as time. The classes and workshops are a way to create a family or go to a different kind of church. Finding companionship is healthy and constant learning makes you senile resistant. The key is to distinguish whether you are using self-help to grow or if it is using you to have a life.

Q: Any advice to people who are totally new to the world of self-help when they pick up a copy of The New Feminine Brain? A: Take the questionnaire. See chapters 1,2, 3, 4 and the sections on emotional feng shui and mood and society. Recurring problems indicate that you are not listening to the intuition behind the moods. Merely getting remedies is not enough. You must understand what constant moods are all about.

Get someone who has a credential in an area that is board certified by the government. This is a mark of integrity and grounding in that field. It also indicates that they have a rigor to pass the hurdle. Such a person is not a fly by night but one who has mastered an area and there is something about a person who has structure in a discipline. This is a person who has had to sit with a supervisor, make mistakes, get guidance, and then get it right. A name comes with a tradition. When buying a Ford or Toyota we are purchasing this tradition. Use the same common sense as you would when looking for a new car.

Millions of people, in recent years, have tuned into the very special art of tattooing as a way to have something of permanent meaning placed on their bodies. Intellectual Property Engaging With China On Cultural And Legal Fronts


China is well entrenched in the global marketplace, but with Chinese piracy reported at 90 percent, it's the third least friendly country for protecting intellectual property (IP).


China's accession into the World Trade Organization started four years ago. With this commitment to regulatory and economic restructuring, China has indeed been a country of economic opportunity for multinational corporations.


In theory, WTO accession means that WTO members can enjoy IP protections. In China, secure those patent protections carefully. Dot the i's, cross those t's and 'watch your language.' Also, anticipate litigation.


According to attorneys A. Jason Mirabito and Carol Peters, in a March 2005 article published in Chip Scale Review: In the past there was little enforcement of IP in China. However, in 2002, Chinese courts litigated more than 6,000 civil cases involving IP issues. About 2,000 cases involved patent suits. The rest were trademark and copyright actions.


Those 2002 statistics pale compared to recent figures reported by the International Herald Tribune: In 2005, Chinese courts dealt with 12,205 civil intellectual property cases, an increase of 32 percent from 2003 and a few dozen two decades ago.


Consider one recent case, which demonstrates that China's legal savvy is climbing with its growing stake in US markets and the global economy. The case also demonstrates the role of US courts in patent and IP protection, along with the perseverant or 'energized' stance required by US companies threatened by counterfeit goods or the prospect of piracy.


Energizer & Eveready vs. Just about Everybody


The dispute started in the spring of 2003, when Energizer Holdings, a US company, and its subsidiary Eveready filed a lawsuit with the International Trade Commission (ITC). The complaint addressed a signature product, a long-lasting battery design--affecting in particular a line of zero mercury-added alkaline batteries that Energizer has held a patent on for three decades. Also mentioned in the suit are games, toys, and other products manufactured with batteries whose designs are protected.


Energizer asked the ITC to issue a cease-and-desist order and to ban US imports of these products, claiming the batteries exported to the United States by the 26 manufacturers, affiliates or distributors named in the suit had infringed on Energizer's US patent. Among the multiple respondents named in the complaint, nine were Chinese manufacturers, including Fujian Nanping Nanfu. Nanfu Battery is one of China's largest alkaline battery manufacturers and suppliers. Energizer requested the ITC investigation under Section 337 of the US Tariff Act.


At the time of the original filing, China was considered the world's largest manufacturer and exporter of this specific battery with an estimated 75-80 percent of its goods being exported to overseas markets. According to a China press report, Chinese batteries usually cost between a 10th and a third less than US-made ones, making them very popular in overseas markets.


The ITC handed down a preliminary ruling in 2004, deciding that nine manufacturers from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong infringed upon Energizer's patent, and recommended banning imports of the batteries. But four months later, the ITC closed its investigation, and ruled that Energizer's patent was invalid because it was ...indefinite as a matter of law.... Or, in the legalese: The Commission held that Eveready's proffer of alternative constructions of 'said zinc anode' was an admission of indefiniteness.


In plain terms, the main patent claim, or its language, was incorrectly written. Attorneys Mirabito and Peters reported that the Commission determined here was no infringement of the Energizer Holdings patents, and the continued importation of Chinese batteries was permitted.


It Just Keeps on Going and Going...


True to the brand as he battery that never quits, Energizer kept on going and going, and appealed the ITC's final decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. In the suit, Energizer named the ITC as defendants. Energizer's main contention was that the issue regarding language was not substantial enough to invalidate the patent.


The Court's January 25, 2006 ruling, and a follow-up March 20 mandate reversed the earlier ITC opinion, finding that the ITC erred and the patent draft was written correctly enough.


In that regard, we conclude that 'anode gel' is by implication the antecedent basis for 'said zinc anode.' The Commission's holding of invalidity on the ground of indefiniteness is reversed.


In the unanimous ruling, the Court directed the Commission to proceed in accordance with the Administrative Law Judge's prior ruling that the Energizer patent is valid, according to Legal Times analyst, Emma Shwartz.


It was a happy day at Energizer headquarters in St. Louis. We are pleased that this case has been sent back to the ITC for review, said Michael Pophal, Senior Patent Counsel at Energizer, quoted in a company press release. By issuing this mandate, the appeals court has cleared the way for additional inquiry into whether those companies that import mercury-free alkaline batteries into the United States are doing so illegally. If it is indeed determined that they are doing so illegally, the ITC will then determine the appropriate remedy for that illegal activity.


As before, Energizer will seek the general exclusion remedy in the ITC. If the ITC upholds the company's claim, this remedy will bar infringing batteries, including those made or sold by the remaining respondents from importation or sale in the US, and will permit sanction enforcement by US Customs.


What's Next? A Changing Landscape?


Energizer expects a favorable outcome from the ITC. But even as they await the ITC review, the Internet-surfing public has been reading about the recent ITC mandate in starkly opposite terms: in China, recent press accounts erroneously have been reporting that the Court ruled in favor of Chinese manufacturers. They fail to report that the jury, with respect to the ITC, is still out.


It appears that a gentle, collaboratively toned communication between Energizer and China has helped the situation. Many of the erroneous reports have been pulled from news sites.


While Energizer seems to be battling questionable imports the longest and hardest, they aren't the only company doing battle with Chinese manufacturers and companies alleging technology violations of patents, trademarks and IP infringements. The litigious ranks include Hitachi-IBM and Cisco, who won its patent battle over the Shenzhen-based Huawei in 2003. Cisco eventually proved that Huawei, arguably the top Chinese provider of switches and wireless infrastructure, had copied the U.S. companies' firmware code line for line into its products. Huawei settled.


Still, other recent cases are coming to favorable conclusions for plaintiffs defending goods in China courtrooms, an indicator that China is serious about its place in the WTO and in the global economy.


-- In late 2005, java giant Starbucks Coffee won its two-year-old case against 'Xingbake' (translation Star Bucks), for trademark and logo infringement. The case was decided in Shanghai No. 2 Intermediate People's Court, and was considered a landmark judgment and litmus test of China's amended trademark laws. Xingbake has filed an appeal.


-- In 2004, Swiss agribusiness and agricultural chemical maker Syngenta was awarded an apology and compensation after its patent infringement lawsuit was successfully concluded against a Chinese business group. The case was heard in a Nanjing court, one known for its expertise in intellectual property.


There is little doubt that China's government will quickly improve its IP stance, but this analyst believes the most effective pressure will come from its own domestic companies, particularly as they evolve from a heavily manufacturing-depending economy to a service and integrated products economy. This more sophisticated economic profile makes IP rights even more critical, because more Chinese companies will have more at stake when IP is violated.


Recent positive announcements make it clear that rule of law increasingly will be guiding China's economy. In the meantime, keep your intellectual property under a close watch, and build trust with your Chinese partners. Good contracts, good guanxi, and good sense will prove invaluable.

Housing For Alternative Lifestyles

What are alternative lifestyles and why would they require alternative housing? To answer the first part it is easiest to give examples. Then the answer to the second part becomes self evident.

One winter we were camping in our conversion van at a hot springs area in Arizona. We met a man who sold stuffed animals on the side of the highway. Having been through a bad divorce, and having little money, he was living in the van at places like these hot springs. Every day he drove off to the nearest highways and set up his stuffed animals for sale. He claimed to have sold $4,000 worth the first month, so his low cost living meant he could save the money and get back on his feet.

Meanwhile, another neighbor at the hot springs was living in his old RV. He had a house, but he preferred to supplement his social security by renting it out. This meant he lived in his RV for a few weeks at each location, often for free, and spent evenings sitting around campfires talking to travelers like us.

A friend of ours lived in a shack that he built for $3,000 on a small piece of land he bought for $7,000. He was there for enough time to pay off the land and sell it for a profit. This is illegal in many areas, of course, because of things like occupancy permits and minimum square footage requirements. Usually, however, you can camp on your land, so a $2,000 used RV parked on your land makes for a cheap and legal housing alternative.

Other Housing For Alternative Lifestyles

Alternative lifestyle doesn't mean low income of course. There are other reasons for living differently and needing different types of housing. Whether to save money, to travel, to live creatively - there are many reasons why people choose to live in tents, RVs, cabins, underground homes, rental rooms and anything else that's less common than the houses, condos and apartments that most people call home. Here are a few more of these housing options.

- RV Boondocking. I've talked to people living in Rvs that cost $200,000 and ones that cost $600, so the selection of accommodations is varied, to say the least.

- Permanent travelers. Housing is whatever works for the moment for those who work various jobs as the travel.

- Houseboats. There are whole communities of people living on houseboats, and they usually don't have to pay property taxes.

- Basements. Even some people with good incomes choose to live in the basement as they build the house above for cash. No mortgage sounds nice, doesn't it?

- Log cabin squatting. Yes, there really are people living out there in the national forests, moving when they get caught every five or ten years.

- School busses. Apparently old busses sell cheap. We met three young men who lived in one in the deserts of Arizona, and anywhere else they could park it for a month.

- Offices. A couple I know almost moved into the office building they owned. It was on the river and had showers, so why not? One less mortgage too.

A national magazine recently did a write-up on people who lived in the jungles of Hawaii. Rents are high in Hawaii, and life on the beach is good - at least for younger people who can tolerate camping out for years. Alternative lifestyles and alternative housing are often more for the younger crowd. Then again, tell that to the tens of thousands of retirees living in RVs.

Lightweight Backpacks How Light?

How light is light? Lightweight backpacks weigh less than three pounds, a standard I just invented. There are good packs under three pounds for almost all types of trips. My own Golite backpack weighs just 14 ounces, and has a capacity of 2900 cubic inches, plus 1000 more in the extension collar. It's more comfortable than any frame pack I've used, but then I don't carry more than 20 pounds in it.

The mesh outer pockets are a great idea. I stuff my wet tarp in the large one in the morning, where it's easy to take out to dry later. I've had my GoLite for ten years. I've used it from the rain forest to glaciers at 20,600 feet on two trips to Ecuador, as well as in the Rockies, the Smokies, and in Michigan. Packed right, it qualifies as carry-on when I fly (I don't like to check luggage).

My next pack will probably be the tougher GoLite Gust, which weighs 20 ounces. I just read seven reviews, all of them praising the pack. One reviewer used it for the weekend with a 27-pound load, so a lightweight backpack doesn't have to be light-duty.

Using Frameless Lightweight Backpacks

Like mine, many lightweight backpacks don't have frames. I use a sleeping pad for a frame, as is recommended. Some backpackers just put the pad in the backpack loosely rolled, with everything inside it. I've found a better way.

Take a closed-cell pad, like the cheap blue ones, and cut it across, halfway through the foam, on opposite sides. You can accordion it into a three layer thick (2 cuts) or four layer thick (3 cuts) back-padding frame. The hinges thus created last a long time. Put the pad in the pack, (against your back) and load everything in behind it.

Other Backpack Options

If you want lightweight AND cheap backpacks, start experimenting. I've used an old aluminum pack frame and large duffle bag, to create a full-suspension pack that weighs just two pounds. Though it carried loads well in the mountains of Montana, it wasn't the most convenient to use. By the way, it is lighter than any frame pack I've ever seen advertised.The 8-ounce duffle works okay as a backpack by itself too.

I recently bought a lightweight backpack at Walmart. It weighs six ounces, and it is actually comfortable. It's a daypack, but large enough for overnight hikes, since I travel really light. It cost just four dollars. Lighweight backpacking gear isn't always expensive.

Real Estate Investors: Change Strategies as Market Cools

Depending upon where you live, it may be time for you to rethink your investment strategy if you're a real estate investor, because many areas of the country appear to be on the verge of a price downturn. The indicators are there, beginning with the fact that it's taking significantly longer to market homes when compared to last year. When coupled with rising interest rates, it's likely that the recent real estate boom may be coming to an end.

One of the most startling statistics can be found in Los Angeles, where the median home currently sells for ten times the area's median income. That trend can't continue, regardless of interest rates or the kinds of creative financing options banks come up with.

LA's trend isn't unique, however, and home prices will probably continue to fall as 2006 progresses, and will decrease even more dramatically in 2007, especially if interest rates continue to rise. That trend will be more pronounced in areas of the country that have seen dramatic price increases in recent years. Some economists even predict double-digit declines in Miami and Las Vegas, two of America's hotspots during the recent real estate boom.

However, those sorts of declines aren't expected to be countrywide. Some areas of the country may actually see real estate values continue to grow, but at more modest rates, including most of the Midwest, parts of Texas, and even some larger cities like Atlanta.

As an investor, you'll need to be aware of the trend in your area and invest accordingly. For example, if you're a builder, the combination of higher home prices, higher interest rates, and higher gas prices will make it harder to sell high-end homes that are built some distance away from major cities.

Homes are also getting smaller, after increasing in size for the past thirty years (peaking at 2,430 square feet) and the things people want to see in their homes are changing. For example, luxury kitchens and deluxe bathrooms have gained in popularity while the demand for formal dining rooms has decreased.

If you're an investor who depends on flipping houses, your profit margins may be shrinking and your flipping time may be increasing. Therefore, you may want to begin thinking in terms of income and not capital gains. Although being a landlord isn't for everyone, if real estate values continue to decline and on-market times continue to increase, you may want to think about renting your homes as you wait for the market to improve.

You may also want to look at properties closer to downtown areas, since many renters are attracted by easy proximity to their jobs and to the amenities offered by cities. Rental units near office complexes or near several main highways can be especially attractive investments in a market that is showing signs of slowing down. If you're really not cut out to be a landlord, you can always turn the details over to a property management company, assuming you make enough on the rental to cover their 5-10 percent fee.

Regardless of your previous real estate investment strategy, you may want to begin rethinking your options as the real estate boom begins to slow down in most areas of the country.

Ticket to Ride A Fun Strategy Boardgame

Ticket To Ride is a game that is a little simpler than some of the more complicated train board games that are out there. The goal is rather simple: it's to score more points than your opponents. The trick is how you go about scoring points. You can get them two ways. One is by having the longest track completed at the end of the game. The other way is by completing different destination tricks which give you points for connecting certain cities on the map.

Everyone begins the game with their own set of little miniature trains. On your turn you can either draw cards, place your trains, or draw destination tickets. The only way you can play your trains are by having enough colored train cards to match one of the tracks between cities, if you have the correct number of that color of card for that track you can play your trains. Because of this, drawing cards is a good idea early in the game. Another thing you might want to do is draw destination cards. When you draw destination cards you can draw up to three and discard them if you don't like them but you must keep at least one. Destination cards give you points for completing paths using your train tokens from one city to another.

As the game goes on you will have to decide if you want to try to risk picking up more destination tickets. If you complete a ticket you get points, but if you fail to complete it you lose points. The trick though by picking them up late is you might find a destination ticket that you have already completed. Remember, you can choose up to three of them and only have to keep one! Of course there is another way to score points. That is if you have the longest track at the end of the game. This will get you ten bonus points. This is why I said early in the game you might want to make sure you draw cards early. You can try to make a nice long route and then hope that it will work out for the destination cards you draw. Of course this also increases your risk of getting negative points.

In the end you will need to develop your own strategy and sometimes you opponent's strategies will help dictate the one that you use. This game is a lot of fun, and due to it's simplicity it can be played with a variety of age groups. In the end the person with the most points wins, and considering how quickly the game can be taught it works for groups of people that are gaming fans as well as ones that just want a simple boardgame to play for the evening. It retails for about $30 so that is one of the few negatives about the game. If you think you and your fellow game players will play it quite a bit it's worth the purchase though.

Anonymous Holding of Real Estate Boats and Planes

Panama allows for the use of an anonymous bearer share corporation to own real estate, boats or planes. The person who has the physical possession of the stock certificates of the corporation is the one who controls the disposition of the asset be it real estate, a plane or a boat. There is no registry to look up who owns the bearer share company. Ownership is anonymous. There is also no requirement to report sales or transfers of the bearer share stock, so no one knows who the new owners are, possibly not even the old owner if the sale was to another bearer share corporation or Panama Foundation which is also anonymous. Let us take a hypothetical example:

An investor from outside of Panama wishes to acquire some real estate as an investment and wishes to derive rental income from it all done anonymously to secure the investment away from the reaches of potential financial enemies. A trip to Panama is made to inspect various properties for investment. After a property is isolated an offer needs to be made. So an anonymous corporation is formed to make the offer. Remember no one knows who owns this anonymous corporation. The owner never appears in any registry. This is not to say that a court order is needed, it is to say that there are no records to get a court order for. So now the attorney representing the client submits an offer on the property in the name of the anonymous corporation.

This is a common practice in Panama. Now the offer is accepted. So the client wires the funds to the lawyer representing him/her, the lawyer puts the funds into the escrow and the purchase is made with title going to the anonymous corporation. When the property is sold the stock certificates from the corporation are transferred to the new owner thus avoiding tax of 10% on the profit realized from the real estate transaction. The lawyer can obtain the services of a real estate broker to rent the property and sign a lease on behalf of your corporation. The lawyer can collect the rental income in their bank account and forward it to you or do with the funds as you so direct. This is a relatively solid asset protection scenario. To add another layer to the structure (normally not needed because no one knows who owns the corporation) one has a foundation own the corporation that owns the real estate. The personal debts do not transfer to the foundation if the debt was not in place at the time the foundation received the assets in question from the person.

So if you legally owe people money today and transfer money, real estate etc to a foundation next week the debt could follow the asset. If you tried to collect this in Panama and the debt was from another country the expense, time delay, chances of success collecting on a civil judgment concerning matters outside of Panama, etc would probably not warrant the collection action but the exposure would still be there but only for three years from the date of the transfer since Panama has a statue of limitations on these transfers to defraud creditors. If the court case took longer than three years which it probably would that could possibly be the end of it as well. So if the lawful collectible debt was not in place at the time of the transfer to the foundation the asset would be immune from court ordered collection. If it is starting to sound like it couldn't be better even if you wrote the laws, you are getting the idea.

The same scenario can essentially be used to acquire boats, planes, art, jewelry and other collectibles.

The Existence Or Absence Of ADHD Helpfull Behavioral Interventions

It is not compulsory for any very active person,which lacks attention or proves himself/herself impulsive to be affected by ADHD. It is difficult even for the specialists to determine whether is ADHD,considering that many healthy people may be distracted, may forget things or speak too much spontaneously in certain situations.

Few Simple Behavioral Interventions

In order to provide the needed help to children with ADHD in organizing, the following actions should be taken into consideration:

Providing a schedule. Creating a routine every day, from wake-up time to bedtime. A variety of actions should be included in the schedule, homework time and playtime, both outdoor and indoor activities. The schedule will be placed on the refrigerator or a bulletin board where it can be easily seen. Changes in that schedule will be announced long time before they will take place. Writing down the assignment is important. Also, using organizers for the homework, books and notebooks may come in handy, the daily needed items. Have a designated place for everything and keep everything in its place: backpacks, school supplies, clothing, etc.

Some rewards, praises, as well as critics, are needed every time the well established rules are understood and followed or not followed.

Quite often, we do not get to know the reason and most often we end up attributing such happening to bad luck , fate or wrong timing. I have observed that many of us carry the unnecessary burden of these incidents as an unsolved mystery, as an extra luggage all through our life.

Here are just a few of such incidents from my life which were a part of extra luggage, I use to carry till recently.

All set to join my schoolmates for an educational tour, I developed chicken pox and had to be contended at home. I was unable to understand, what went wrong ? Why did it happen to me alone ? Why couldnt I go with the school team as planned ? I had many questions but no satisfactory answers.

Couple of years later, when in college, I was one of the 20 probables, who were to receive specialized cricket coaching and had a chance to make it to the University team.

My joy knew no limits. I was practicing very hard to make it to the team, when one fine morning, I broke two bones of my left arm, while attempting to complete a diving catch. Heavens came crashing down and I was holding my left arm in a cast, through a sling, for the next three months.

Cricket was now for a while a thing of past. I had the same questions hovering over my mind. And yet again there were no satisfactory answers. Why me, of all people in this world had to go through this?

Then came the time in life, when it was like a dream come true. I got married to my longtime sweetheart in a grand wedding ceremony. We moved to our own dream home, i.e., our rented apartment in the city where I was posted. Time was just flying and we felt like being at the top of the world.

Then, one night I woke up with a severe abdominal pain, only to be operated upon two days later. I was saved, but developed some postoperative complications , only to undergo another major life saving surgery, a couple of months later.

I was away from active life for about seven months. Didnt know, why a perfect looking and love blessed life had to go through these hurdles ? Why did it not happen the way we planned ? Why did it happen only to me ? Yet again, I had only questions, no answers.

A couple of years back, I was surfing through TV channels, when I happened to watch Indian movie superstar Amitabh Bachchan having an informal chat with some school children. And there he was narrating an incident from his childhood life , that answered all my questions listed above and made me free from the burden of that extra luggage, I had been carrying on my mind, so long & till now.

Here is what Amitabh said .

Amitabh was in boarding school, called Sherwood School, located in the hill town of Nainital, U.P., India. The Annual Day celebrations were just a few days away. Amitabh was to play the lead role in the play that was one of the major attractions of that evening.

Amitabhs father, Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan, a well-known poet of national and international fame, had also come to town to witness his sons performance. Things looked set for a wonderful evening.

Amitabh developed high fever just a couple of days before the annual day and had to be admitted to a local hospital. Doctors ruled out any possibility of his attending the function, leave aside participation in the play.

The D-day arrived. Amitabh spent the Schools Annual Day, confined to the hospital bed, with tears in his eyes, his father by his bedside and a question on his lips as to what wrong had he done to have missed the chance to perform at the Schools final function.

His father replied Amit, it would have really been very good if things had happened the way you planned, but consider it to be the best, if things have happened otherwise.

Amitabh could not understand what his father wanted to explain and how a missed chance could be the best thing to happen. He asked his father, why does he say so?

His father said, Amit, you had decided to act in the play and participate in the Annual Day celebrations. It would have been good if things had worked your way.

But, he, the Almighty GOD had decided otherwise. As per his plan you were not to do so. And what he decides for you has to be nothing but the best.

As the words made sense, the meaning was clearly understood. As per Amitabh, this was one of the learnings that helped him keep that extra luggage out, all his life.

As I listened to Amitabh, I had found answers to many such unsolved questions of my life. As I looked back, I found that GOD has been very kind to me. I had got much more than what I expected. Every unexpected and unforeseen turn of events in life had turned out to my benefit in the ultimate analysis.

Well, now I know it had to be that way, because it was a combination of his plan and my efforts !

How to Treat Diabetes by Juicing

Treating Diabetes by Juicing can be as simple as extracting the fresh juice from raw fruit and vegetables. People with diabetes mellitus cannot properly process glucose, a sugar the body uses for energy. As a result, glucose stays in the blood, causing blood glucose levels to rise.

JUICES USED TO TREAT DIABETES

Daily Juicing of vegetables and fruits can be used in any combination of the following: ginger, garlic, celery, pumpkin, cabbage, asparagus, parsley, spinach, leeks, spinach, beets and carrots. Juicing fresh green vegetables such as brussel sprouts and string beans is a wonderful health benefit as both are good sources of natural insulin. Nutrients such as silicon works to support the pancreas and are found in alfalfa, olives, asparagus, lettuce, mustard greens, radishes, cabbage and cucumbers. Use fruit combinations sparingly due to their high sugar content. Sweet juices such as carrot, beet, grape, apple or pear juice should be half diluted with water or mixed with other juices such as celery.

Make only as much juice as needed for immediate use. In storage including refrigeration, raw juices oxidize rapidly and lose their medicinal value in as little as 10 minutes.

Bitter Melon juice has been used to treat diabetes mellitus (according to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians). The plant contains at least three known compounds that can lower the body?s blood sugar level. Recommended serving per day is 2 ounces of fresh bitter melon juice.

Mangosteen juice used as a supplement under medical supervision may decrease blood sugar levels and benefit those with type 2 diabetes. Recommended dose per day is 1 ounce or 30ml of Mangosteen juice to be taken before a meal.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Grapefruit juice interacts badly with certain prescription drugs. Please check with your physician. Diabetics who are taking the following medication should not use bitter melon juice: chlorpropamine, glyburide, phenformin, or insulin. This can increase the effects of these drugs and lead to severe hypoglycemia. Diabetics should consult their medical professional before taking this juice.

MEDICAL PRECAUTIONS

If you have complications in pregnancy such as gestational diabetes or blood pressure problems please check the use of mangosteen juice with your physician. Always take fruit juices with food.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends limiting fruit juice for children under 6 years of age to four to six ounces a day. Bitter melon is an abortifacient, so women who are pregnant or nursing should not take it. Do not give this melon to small children and infants due to its hypoglycemic effects. Bitter melon is also an emmenagogue, which means that it encourages or increases menstrual flow in women.

AVOID

Due to high sugar content, diabetes may be aggravated by excessive intake of sweet juices such as carrots and most fruits. Excessive intake of tomato and citrus juices could upset the body?s natural acid (pH) balance as they are highly acidic.

SIDE EFFECTS

According to the American Foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine: If too much bitter melon juice is taken; it can cause mild abdominal pain or diarrhea. Multiple servings of Mangosteen juice tend to raise blood sugar initially even with as little as 15ml. This has been observed more often in people of Asian descent who are not obese.

PRELIMINARY TRIALS

Two preliminary trials found that aloe vera juice (containing 80% aloe gel) helps lower blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes.

August 29, 2006 -- Drinking pomegranate juice may help people with diabetes reduce their risk of heart disease. In the small study, published in the journal Atherosclerosis, researchers examined the effects: of drinking a concentrated form of pomegranate juice. Michael Aviram, researcher of the Techion Faculty of Medicine in Haifa, Israel, says: Patients with type 2 diabetes (who were not dependent on insulin therapy) were tested. Blood sugar levels were not affected which suggests that the antioxidants found in pomegranate juice may be especially beneficial in reducing heart-related risks associated with diabetes.

The American Association of Naturopathic Physicians in Seattle has a referral database of naturopathic physicians: who practice juice treatments throughout the United States. Daily juicing of primarily organic vegetables and fruits is a beneficial part of any long term program to treat diabetes. French Leaseback

What is a leaseback?
Leaseback is a unique process developed by the French government more than 15 years ago to encourage quality development in tourist areas. Investors buy a freehold property and at the same time sign a lease contract with a property management company who will rent it for short term rentals for a renewable period generally 11 years.

Top 10 Critical Mistakes Homebuyers Make and How to Avoid Them (Part One)

1.Using an out-of-town lender.

Getting a mortgage in a timely and hassle-free manner is the ?key that opens the door? to your new home.

Lenders who don?t live in the area you are buying in will not have the contacts needed to process your loan in an efficient and timely manner. Are you aware that if your lender fails to get you your loan on time, that your earnest money deposit may be at risk of being forfeited?

Your best bet is to ask your real estate agent whom they have used before and who they trust.

If it is important to you to use a lender from out-of-state (family member, friend etc.), your best bet is to have your lender refer your business to a local lender. This will help insure that your out-of-state lender receives a referral fee, they don?t violate state mortgage laws, and most importantly you are able to close on the home you want to buy.

Mortgage story: The very first transaction I was involved in after I got my real estate license was a nightmare due to a negligent lender. I was representing a buyer from Las Vegas (I live in St. George, Utah) that insisted on using a Las Vegas lender. Unfortunately the lender would rarely return calls or answer his phone. He failed to close on time. We extended the closing date time and again, and time and again the out-of-state lender failed to have the loan ready. The buyers were frantic and the sellers were angry. Finally eight weeks after we were supposed to close my buyers finally dropped the lousy lender and went with a local lender that I recommended. To my buyer?s amazement, by using the local lender, we closed the transaction 10 days later.

2.Not using a loan approval letter when making an offer on a property.

You?ve found ?The Home? and want to make an offer to buy it. Now anybody can make a full price offer and get it accepted.

What if ?The Home? is priced at $275,000 but you offer $250,000 and say that you will pay for the home by getting a new loan?

The sellers, when presented with your $250,000 offer, know nothing about you except that you seem to think their home is worth less than they feel its worth. At that point they will probably do one of two things. They might reject your offer outright. Or they might counter your offer at close to their asking price. As far as they?re concerned they never considered your original offer to be a ?real? offer.

Do you think that they would have taken your $250,000 offer more seriously if you had said you could pay cash? Of course they would have, after all money talks.

What if you had already received full loan approval from a lender. Not just pre-qualified, or pre-approved (Being pre-approved is kinda like being pre-pregnant), but fully approved for a home loan with a letter from the underwriter to prove it. A letter that is as good as ?cash in the bank?. You?ve become a ?Power Buyer?! You never know, maybe the seller would accept your offer, rather than letting a good buyer get away.

Wow, if your offer was accepted, you just saved $25,000 on the purchase of your home! And all you had to do was meet with the lender before you went house hunting.

3.Buying too much house for your income.

I used to do ?Broker Price Opinions, or BPO? for banks. This is where a bank would contact me to find out the value of a home that they had given a loan on. Often times this ?BPO? was because the homeowner was losing or had lost their home because they could no longer afford the home. What a terribly sad event for that family.

Things happen in life that you might never expect. Don?t unknowingly ?open the door? to future foreclosure and bankruptcy by getting a mortgage that you can ?grow into?. Life rarely works out the way you expect.

One of the best moves I?ve ever made was purchasing my current home. When I bought this home I qualified for a home twice as expensive as the one I bought. Payments on my home rarely cause me stress or concern.

4.Thinking ?short-term?.

Want to really scare me? Tell me you want to buy a home today and that you will want sell it in two, three or four years. Yikes! Talk about wanting to lose money.

Real Estate home values generally rise very slowly in a slow or soft real estate market. In St. George, where I live, our average time between hot markets (when home values rise quickly, usually doubling) is ten years. If you bought $250,000 home in a slow market, in three years it might be worth $265,000. Your cost to sell with commission and other costs would be $18,200. You would lose $8,200 for your short term thinking.

If you have to move within three years of buying a home, it would be better to use the home as a rental for a few years, and sell it when the market will allow you to make a profit. Better yet rent it out until the top of the next hot market, then sell it and potentially make $250,000 profit.

5.Using 1031 exchange money to buy personal property.

Do you really want to risk having the IRS charge you with fraud? Enough said.

Lightweight Backpacks Some Ideas

How light is light? Lightweight backpacks weigh less than three pounds, a standard I just invented. There are good packs under three pounds for almost all types of trips. My own Golite backpack weighs just 14 ounces, and has a capacity of 2900 cubic inches, plus 1000 more in the extension collar. It's more comfortable than any frame pack I've used, but then I don't carry more than 20 pounds in it.

The mesh outer pockets are a great idea. I stuff my wet tarp in the large one in the morning, where it's easy to take out to dry later. I've had my GoLite for ten years. I've used it from the rain forest to glaciers at 20,600 feet on two trips to Ecuador, as well as in the Rockies, the Smokies, and in Michigan. Packed right, it qualifies as carry-on when I fly (I don't like to check luggage).

My next pack will probably be the tougher GoLite Gust, which weighs 20 ounces. I just read seven reviews, all of them praising the pack. One reviewer used it for the weekend with a 27-pound load, so a lightweight backpack doesn't have to be light-duty.

Using Frameless Lightweight Backpacks

Like mine, many lightweight backpacks don't have frames. I use a sleeping pad for a frame, as is recommended. Some backpackers just put the pad in the backpack loosely rolled, with everything inside it. I've found a better way.

Take a closed-cell pad, like the cheap blue ones, and cut it across, halfway through the foam, on opposite sides. You can accordion it into a three layer thick (2 cuts) or four layer thick (3 cuts) back-padding frame. The hinges thus created last a long time. Put the pad in the pack, (against your back) and load everything in behind it.

Other Backpack Options

If you want lightweight AND cheap backpacks, start experimenting. I've used an old aluminum pack frame and large duffle bag, to create a full-suspension pack that weighs just two pounds. Though it carried loads well in the mountains of Montana, it wasn't the most convenient to use. By the way, it is lighter than any frame pack I've ever seen advertised.The 8-ounce duffle works okay as a backpack by itself too.

I recently bought a lightweight backpack at Walmart. It weighs six ounces, and it is actually comfortable. It's a daypack, but large enough for overnight hikes, since I travel really light. It cost just four dollars. Lighweight backpacking gear isn't always expensive.

Valuable Real Estate Purchasing Tips

Perhaps the most important process of buying or selling your home is the ?contract of purchase and sale?. This one contract must be the strongest link in the chain that holds your purchase or sale together. The intent of each item included in this contract must be clear with no misunderstandings. In other words, everyone understand what to do and when to do it.

The ?contract of purchase and sale? has been developed by the B.C. Real Estate Association and the Canadian Bar Association within British Columbia. This contract is mostly suitable for residential real estate and should not be used for commercial transactions. One major issue in the contract of purchase and sale that is often over looked is the numbering of pages. The approved contract and all ammendum pages should be cross referenced. The appropriate page number should be written at the top of each page (i.e., Page 1 of 3, or Page 2 of 3 and so forth).

An amendment to an original contract of purchase and sale is essentially known as a change in the agreement. This new agreement that has been made should be put in writing in what as known as an ?addendum form? and signed by all the parties to the contract. Each of these parties much receive a copy and this copy must be dated appropriately. The amendment done on the addendum form must clearly refer to the original contract and ?all other terms and conditions remain the same? should be in writing after the change.

Are you out of the country or out of the province? The seller or buyer may appoint someone (realtor or another person) to act on his or her behalf with regards to any real estate transaction. This authorization should explain the exact terms and conditions under what authority the person has to sign on an agreement. For example: A telegram, letter or fax may be perfectly fine for this person to sign for. However, the signing of legal binding agreement may need the signature of ?power of attorney?. When a person is granting the power of attorney to another individual, the proper way to complete this is as shown. However, should not be taken as legal advice and should not be used without first consulting your lawyer.

? First-Name Last-Name grants a power of attorney to her friend First-Name Last-Name to enter into contracts for the sale of his/her property.? This friend could then sign both the listing contract and any other contracts including the contract of purchase and sale. This agreement should be witnessed by another person. This should be done on the correct form provided by your lawyer of choice. Legal Counsel is recommended that all parties to a transaction be advised to have legal advice from separate lawyers.

?Subject to? Clauses in the purchase of your new home, condo, apartment or mobile home is a very important binding element of your agreement. If one or both parties are not clear, this can weaken your agreement and could alter the original intentions of the purchase and sale. The ideal subject clause is one whose criteria are so clear that it is completely obvious whether the criteria for satisfying that clause are met. When your looking at your clauses consider this. Is your clause subjective or objective? Here?s the difference:

A subjective ? Is one that depends on the personal view of the individual who decides it.

An Objective ? (in contrast) Is an objective clause that depends on the external event.

The more subjective the wording of a subject clause, the higher the chases the court system in British Columbia will find the clause to be uncertain. So how do you make your clause more objective? Make it clear so that everyone may easily know whether the clause is fulfilled or not. The more objective it is, the more you can prove whether the subject clause is completed or not.

Your local realtor is required to take a course on proper contractual writing and should have an innate knowledge of the law.
